"AQUA-MON" Water Use Monitor & Leak Detector: U.S. Patent # 5,637,789

Water Use Monitor and Leak Detector:
Introducing AQUA-MON, an electronic Water Use Monitor and Leak Detector. It continuously monitors your water use and displays it on a small 10-segment red L.E.D. bargraph. When water is used, 1 to 10 L.E.D.'s light up, depending on the amount of water being used.
Normal operation is for L.E.D.'s to light up whenever a faucet is turned on, washing machine fills or rinses, commode is flushed, ice maker fills, etc. You know you have a LEAK when lights come on but don't go off. If you have ever had a $500 water bill because of a broken pipe that you didn't know about or have a hot water pipe break under your house and warp your hardwood floors, you can appreciate how valuable the AQUA-MON can be.
Water leaks cause enormously expensive foundation damage, but the biggest leak problem, according to the American Water Works Association, is toilets! They estimate that at least 20 % of all toilets in the U.S. are leaking at this very moment and cost $6 billion annually in unnecessary water charges. One of the worst results of leaking commodes is for RV holding tanks and home septic tanks to fill and overflow into the house. The inventor has personally experienced the overflow of his RV's holding tank; his hardwood floors in 2 rooms of his home were ruined due to a hot water pipe break and he paid a huge water bill due to a pipe break in his unattended garden. Another reason for having a leak detector is that city sewer fees are based on the amount of water you use during a specific time period. Water leaks can cause you to pay higher sewer charges year-round.
The AQUA-MON Water Use Monitor and Leak Detection System is available from Lawson Electronics for $48. Installation can be accomplished by a homeowner, plumber, etc.
